Kerry is a service-connected, combat-disabled veteran of the United States Marine Corps. Kerry served in the Marines from 1987 to 1998, where he was deployed all over the world, including the conflicts in Panama and Somalia, and the Persian Gulf War where he served in Operations Desert Shield and Storm.
In August 2019, Kerry founded Warrior Advocacy, LLC dedicated to providing representation to disabled veterans and their survivors. From January 2013 to June 2019, Kerry was employed as a VA appellate practitioner and Claims’ Strategy Supervisor for Chisholm, Chisholm & Kilpatrick (CCK).
Prior to joining CCK, Kerry was employed by the Department of Veterans Affairs as the Chief, Legislative and Policy Staff in the Veterans Benefits Administration. As such, he supervised legislative and policy functions in Compensation Service. Among other things, Kerry managed special projects related to disability benefit programs, such as Agent Orange-related issues; PTSD-related issues, including those related to military sexual trauma; and, environmental hazards, such as those from the Gulf War and Operations Enduring and Iraqi Freedom. Kerry also supervised all policy evolution relating to the adjudication of over 150,000 Vietnam Agent Orange-related Nehmer claims — the largest and most successful Nehmer project in its history.
Prior to joining VA’s workforce, Kerry served as an Assistant National Legislative Director for the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) from September 2007 to June 2009. He drafted and presented testimony before congressional authorizing, budget, oversight, or appropriations committees while analyzing the implications and impact of legislation introduced in Congress.
From 2005 to 2007, Kerry served as a Non-Attorney Practitioner for DAV’s Judicial Appeals Office where he provided legal representation to veterans and their dependents before the U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims in appeals from the Board of Veterans’ Appeals. From 2002 to 2005, Kerry supervised multiple DAV National Service Offices.
Kerry joined the law firm of Hill and Ponton, P.A., as a full-time appellate practitioner on June 1, 2020.
